Cannot connect to SQL Server after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 on the server
Solution
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) includes a new component, Windows Firewall. The default settings of Windows Firewall prevents other computers from connecting to services on the Windows XP computer, including the SQL Server service.

To allow the TSC2 Help Desk clients to connect to the SQL Server you must enable TCP Port 1433 in the Windows Firewall Exception List.
  1. From the Windows desktop Start menu select Settings->Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel double click the Windows Firewall icon and select the Exceptions tab.
  3. Click the Add Port button.
  4. In Properties window set the following:
    Name: SQL Server
    Port Number: 1433
    TCP: Select
  5. Click the Change scope... button.
  6. Select the Scope to allow access to the SQL Server:
Any computer: Select this option if your TSC2 Help Desk clients are on different networks or if you are not sure which option to select
My network: Select this option if all of your TSC2 Help Desk clients are on your local network
  7. Click the OK button.
